Importance of a teacher has been well described by Kabirdas ji .He  appreciated the glory  of "Sadguru" in various ways .Even he says that even if I make the ink of whole of the water of the seven oceans and make the pen of the whole wood of the forests of the  world .If he gets a paper as big as the whole earth's surface ,even then he wouldn't be able to write the glory of a Guru .According to him a person is what ,his teacher is like .

So one must choose a right teacher and if the teacher is wrong ,he should leave him as soon as possible .Because if the teacher is wrong he can take a person in the wrong direction .

Cringe in front of teacher crores of times because as the worm does not know the importance of the
"surroundings " around it and it converts itself according to the surroundings an the same way the teacher converts the desciples in his form .

For acquiring knowledge from the teacher if you need to donate your head ,do that because several fools have got trapped in this strong waves of the ocean world by getting trapped in the false arrogance .

Kabirdas ji says that people keep coming and going from this world but those who get knowledge from a true teacher ,is freed from this commutable life .

teen lok ki sampada ,so guru dinhi daan

There is no donor like the teacher and no solicitor like the desciple .Even the prosperity  of the three worlds has been donated by the teacher .

mile to dandwat bandagi ,nahi pal pal dhyan lagaye

The God and the teacher should be assumed alike.So whatever one has learnt from the teacher ,should  gratify .As one meets the teacher he should  cringe in front of teacher .If anyhow it is not possible he should keep remembering his teacher .

Guru govind dou ek hain duja sab aakaar

aapa mete hari bhaje ,tab paave deedaar

The God and the teacher are same.Only there is difference of the name.When you leave arrogance and redeem Hari ,only then you can see Him.

Guru ko manush janiye te nar kahiye andh

hoye dukhi sansaar mein ,aage jam ka phand

Those who consider the teacher  as human .are blind.
They remain unhappy and get trapped in noose of  Yamaraj .

Guru bin gyan na upaje ,guru bin mile na mosh

guru bin lakhe na satya ko ,guru bin mite na dosh

One can neither attain knowledge without the teacher nor he can get salvation without teacher.
He cant look at the truth nor his faults would be removed .

Guru mahima gaawat sada ,man rakhe ati mod

so bhav phir aave nahi ,baithe prabhu ki god

One who sings the glory of the teacher always and keeps himself happy ,never comes back again in this  world and finds a place in the lap of God.

janam janam ka morcha pal mein dare dhoye

The desciple is a person with a mind full of  the dirty toughts and the teacher is like the clean water of knowledge who cleans the faults of several births within a moment .

Guru sharnagat chhadi ke kare bharosa aur

sukh sampati ko kah chali nahi narak mein thaur

One who abandons the shelter of the teacher and trusts others .Happines and prosperuty is far ,he does not gets place in  the hell even . 

guru so preeti nibahiye ,jehi tat nibahe sant

prem bina dhig door hai prem nikat guru kant

How so ever it is tough to keep with your teacher ,try that.With your service you should keep your teacher and the saints happy .Because without love they are far from you but your true love takes you closer to them .

gyan samagam prem sukh ,daya bhakti vishwas

guru sewa te paiye ,satguru charan niwas

Knowledge ,company , love ,happiness ,compassion ,devotion , reliance ,all this you find by serving your teacher .So find shelter in the feet of  a true teacher .

Guru sewa jan bandagi ,hari sumiran bairaag

yeh charo tabahi mile ,puran hove bhaag

Serving the teacher ,saluting the devotees ,devotion of the lord and detachment .All of these four are available only  to them whose fortune is complete .

Guru murati aage khadi ,dutiya bhed kachhu nahi

unhi ku parnaam kari ,sakal timir miti jahi

When a true teacher is standing in front of you ,do not suspect his personality .Show your reverence to him and whole of your darkness will be removed .

lachha kosh jo guru base ,dije surati pathaye

shabd turi asawaar hai ,chhin aave chhin jaaye

Even if your teacher is quite far from you ,focus your mind in his feet .Riding on the horse of his exhortation keep moving from you to him .

Give your teacher a place over your head as crown and always obey his orders .Such a desciple does not fear far in three worlds.
